MFAIC statement in response to media inquiry on a road-building project across the sea in Viet Nam
On 24 November 2025, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) released a statement in response to the media inquiry regarding a recent post circulated on social media, which asserts that Viet Nam is implementing a road-building project across the sea connecting Tien Hai island commune of An Giang province to Phu Quoc island.
As confirmed by H.E. the Ambassador of Viet Nam and the information received from the Embassy of Viet Nam in Phnom Penh, there is no such road-building project in violation of the Cambodia-Viet Nam Agreement on Historical Waters of 1982 between the two countries, as circulated on social media. The picture showing a road construction seen in the said social media post is actually part of the building project of a road to the Multi-functional Port of Ha Tien City, in the territory of Viet Nam.
